Pierce College's art department offers a wide range of studio and lecture courses for art majors, including classes for digital design students and those who simply wish to explore their creative interests and abilities.

Art Program Description

Students planning to pursue an art major at a transfer institution are encouraged to take studio courses building on the fundamentals of design and drawing as well as those offered in photography and painting. Lecture classes in the visual arts are also offered to provide a broad background in creative arts.

Art Major

Students have two options when pursing their Associate of Arts Degree-Direct Transfer Associate with an art focus. Students must also fulfill the general education requirements needed for an AA-DTA.

AA-DTA Option A

  • ART& 100: Art Appreciation
  • ART 101-103: Design (Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced)
  • ART 105: Intro to art
  • ART 107-109: Photography (Beginning/Interm/Advanced)
  • ART 111-113: Drawing (Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced)
  • ART 201-203: Painting (Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced)

AA-DTA Option B

This is a specific agreement between the student and the transfer institution that may include the possibility of additional studio classes as part of the first and second year art curriculum at Pierce College.

Enrollment is open throughout the year. Start in the fall, winter, spring or summer quarters. Special funding assistance may be available for unemployed workers or low-wage working parents.

TRANSFER DEGREE

The Associate of Arts (AA-DTA) is for liberal arts transfer students. It is also sometimes known as the DTA Associate degree. These degrees can be tailored to your university of choice.

TRANSFER POSSIBILITIES

Students working toward their transfer degree typically take a variety of courses designed to fulfill the general requirements of most four-year colleges and universities.

Students intending to transfer to a four-year college for further training in the art field are encouraged to work closely with their advisor to ensure they meet the requirements of the college they wish to attend after Pierce.
